Hands down, number one favorite is The Beatles. No question. I have a serious crush on Paul McCartney-it’s kind of ridiculous. In January 2006, I took a music history class on the Beatles, and it changed my life. We watched all of their films (not too great) and the entire Anthology (amazing). I was a fan before but now it’s borderline obsessive.

Other favorites include:

John Mayer (I’ve seen him live 5 times, hopefully more to come in the future. Words cannot describe the things he can do with a guitar. It’s incredible. I love him.)
Ben Folds (and Ben Folds Five)
Damien Horne
Flogging Molly
Frou Frou (and Imogen Heap)
Jason Mraz
Jimi Hendrix
Josh Groban
Led Zeppelin
Michael Buble
Michael Franti & Spearhead
Pink Floyd
The Postal Service
Savage Garden

The only radio I’ve listened to recently is the local classic rock station. I pretty much love anyone who was recording in the 60s and 70s. Or, pretty much anyone who is dead.

Living with music majors for so long exposed me to some great classical music, even though I was already a fan before that. I’m still partial to the major players: Debussy, Beethoven, Gershwin, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, and Shostakovich

I confess a love for 80s music. I know, I know. I can’t help it. I love the 80s.

I love good movie soundtracks, including musicals. You should check out the soundtracks to Atonement, Amelie, Becoming Jane, Cinema Paradiso, A Good Year, The Holiday, A Little Princess, Little Women, Love in the Time of Cholera, The Mission, Slumdog Millionaire, Wall-E, Perfume and Pride and Prejudice.

Disney songs always remind me of my childhood. Gotta love those. I love a good showtune here and there. I’m kind of a sucker for Christmas music. I think I can tolerate it better than most because I restrict my listening to strictly the period between after Thanksgiving and before New Year’s.
