To Begin With…

My name is Laura. I was born and raised in Tennessee, graduated from Converse College in South Carolina, and recently decided to uproot my life to Alexandria, VA to pursue a Master’s degree in Art Therapy.  I’m excited about this upcoming chapter in my life. Currently I’m living at home and working at a children’s museum as a member of AmeriCorps. I’m 24 years old, and waiting for my real life to begin.

I spend most of my time watching movies, listening to and researching The Beatles, shoe shopping, knitting, making (but not selling) jewelry, discovering great new music, painting and collaging, dreaming of new travel adventures, finding delicious new dessert recipes (and making a few up along the way), and searching for great concert tickets. My reading list is about a mile long, although not much is getting crossed off lately. Sometimes I go to the gym to actually work out, but mostly to do yoga. I am convinced I was born 40 years too late and on the wrong continent. I should have been in my 20s in the 1960s and 70s. I should also have been born British. Both these factors would give me a significantly greater chance of sleeping with Paul McCartney.

More than almost anything, I love to travel and discover new places. So far I have crossed Spain, France, and England off my list abroad. Even though I love all things French, Barcelona is the most incredible city I’ve ever visited. Since taking French in high school and college, I’ve forgotten most of it, but I’d like to be fluent the next time I’m in Europe. Despite having the next few years planned out, I’m ready to just give up everything and spend the next five years traveling, experiencing everything of the world that I can. In another life, I probably would have been writing for a fashion magazine or creating my own clothing line.

My friends are the greatest people ever; most of them are long-distance now, and I miss them terribly. I have a younger brother who is very different from me, but we still get along pretty well. I have the nose of a bloodhound. Seriously. I might just open up my own cupcakery one day, because I already have an arsenal of knock-your-socks-off flavors. I have huge crushes on Paul McCartney, Mike Rowe, Anthony Bourdain, and John Krasinski. My perfect man is probably some combination of them. I hope such a person really exists out there.
